An Interview with Samantha Keeping, ASID

Q: What inspired you to go into interior design?
A:
I knew as a young girl that I wanted to be an Interior Designer. I loved re-arranging my parents' furniture, building houses out of boxes and blankets -- shapes, textures, and colors have always fascinated me. With interior design there are no rules to limit your creativity. My inspiration comes from a passion of always wanting to create spaces that are aesthetically pleasing.

Q: What characterizes your style?
A: A classic style with interesting colors and accents. It's simple, casually elegant.... I want to live in the space not take care of something that's overly fussy.

Q: What is your design philosophy?

A: I always keep the clients perspective in mind to creatively reflect their lifestyle, aesthetics and individuality.   Great design requires you to have a sharp eye that focuses on quality control, attention to detail and proper scale. It's important to enjoy the process, have some fun along the way and express the client's distinctive taste.

Q: What do you see as the next trend?

A: The Information Age is bringing many influences from around the world directly to our door.   I see a global look evolving with mixed styles, colors and textures for an expressive eclectic statement.   People want more variety and have the desire to change their surroundings more often. Twenty years ago design was more stationary, now it's more dynamic and clients want what's new and the unexpected.

Q: Why is it important to hire an interior designer?

A: As a professional interior designer I will save you time and money by keeping your project on track while enhancing your original vision.   My expertise will prevent you from making costly mistakes.   I will pinpoint your needs and provide the best and most cost effect resources, suppliers, custom craftsmen, and trades people.   My value as a designer is in helping you define your style, make important design decisions and serve as the key liaison between your architect and contractors from concept to completion.
